Product Quantities

When adding products to opportunities, quotes, orders and invoices you must specify the number (quantity) of items to add. What controls whether fractional quantities can be used and the number of decimal places to allow in quantities?

There are two settings to consider:

  • At the product level, the field Decimals Supported specifies the number of decimals potentially allowed for quantity.

  • The Quantity Selling Option on a Price List Item.

The following table explains the options for Quantity Selling Option.

Setting

Effect

No Control

Five decimal places are allowed, regardless of the setting for Decimals Supported on the product

Whole

No decimals are allowed, regardless of the setting for Decimals Supported on the product

Whole and Fractional

The number of decimal places allowed is determined by the setting of Decimals Supported.

This may seem a little overly complicated but it does mean that a product can be sold in whole numbers on one price list and in fractional quantities on another price list.

Decimal Places on Quantity Fields

The quantity fields for opportunity, quote, order and invoice products have a precision setting which defaults to 5 decimal places but this can changed.

The setting interacts with whether a user can enter fractional quantities. If the setting is 0 then fractional quantities cannot be entered even if the settings described above are configured to do so.
